Description
Results are for the identification of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigen. Antigen is generally detectable in upper respiratory specimens during the acute phase of infection. Positive results indicate the presence of viral antigens, but clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic information is necessary to determine infection status.
Antigen rapid tests are used for the direct detection of acute COVID-19 infection. In contrast to the PCR test, which can detect viral genetic material, antigen rapid tests detect protein structures of the virus. As PoC tests, they have the advantage that they can be used immediately on site and evaluated without a laboratory. Since the test result is already available within 15 minutes, antigen tests are among the corona rapid tests.
